The Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Institute Expands Specialty Services
Friday, January 6, 2017
Palmdale, CA — The Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Institute (ROI) at Palmdale Regional Medical Center has expanded their specialty services to include physical therapy for pelvic floor muscle (PFM) dysfunction.
Physical therapists apply their broad knowledge base of anatomy, physiology, evidence-based clinical assessment and interventions to enhance pelvic health. Clinical practice in this specialty area includes treatment to the pelvic floor in isolation as well as in conjunction with other comorbidities, including chronic low back pain and other lumbopelvic dysfunctions.
PFM dysfunction can lead to the development of urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, sensory and emptying abnormalities of the lower urinary tract, defecatory dysfunction, sexual dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain syndromes. It should also be noted that PFM dysfunction is not a normal consequence of aging and it is evident throughout the life span, from young children to the geriatric population.
ROI would like to introduce Andrea Wise, PT, DPT, CLT, WCS. Andrea is a board-certified specialist in women’s health physical therapy and a certified lymphedema specialist. Andrea has been a practicing physical therapist for 10 years, and has recently completed advanced clinical training to specialize in conservative management of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, lymphedema and circulatory insufficiency, along with special needs after a cancer diagnosis.
