The Emergency Department at Palmdale Regional Medical Center plays an essential role in meeting the urgent healthcare needs of more than 54,000 Antelope Valley residents each year. In addition to providing high quality emergency medical care for serious illnesses and injuries, the staff at the Emergency Department also treats minor injuries, such as cuts and bruises.
Patients who arrive at the Emergency Department at Palmdale Regional Medical Center will first undergo a triage process with a physician assistant (PA) or nurse practitioner (NP) to help determine the level of care they need. The triage process helps ensure that patients with more severe illnesses or injuries get the care they need as quickly as possible, while patients with less severe injuries and illnesses receive the care they need quickly and efficiently.
Heart Attack
Cardiologists, radiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and other medical professionals work together to provide coordinated emergency intervention for heart attack patients. As a result, the Emergency Department at Palmdale Regional Medical Center has one of the country's lowest mortality rates for heart attacks, and is known for its success in treating people who are experiencing a heart attack.
Time is critical for anyone experiencing the symptoms of a heart attack. Seeking immediate treatment can make a big difference in the quality of life after recovery. Waiting to go to the emergency department may increase the amount of heart damage.
Depending on the type and severity of the heart attack, the cardiac team may take patients directly from the Emergency Department to a catheterization lab to administer treatments to clear blocked arteries and restore blood and oxygen flow to damaged heart tissue. At Palmdale Regional Medical Center, a cardiac team and two fully-equipped cardiac catheterization suites are available 24 hours a day.
